About the Comic:

The idea for a comic book about Victorine Meurent happened for two reasons: one, Manet's "Olympia" has long been my favorite painting and I had no idea until a random wikipedia search one day that "Olympia" had a name and life of her own! Two, I was unhappy with most of the existing source material on her life in English, especially the publication of a historical fiction of her life which I found substandard.

Research was started in the summer of 2007, and the comic was completed in early December of 2007.

Special Thanks:

Cooper Holmes, for betting me an expensive dinner on New Year's that I couldn't finish a 32 page comic. Couldn't have done it without the motivation.

Emily Siefken and Greg Baldino, for being interested in the project and providing encouragement.

Emmanuel Laurent, for providing the scan of "Palm Sunday" and working to keep her memory alive.
